Reese Witherspoon: Sweet Home Alabama to Southern Inspiration Home Decor Line
We all love Reese Witherspoon who became America’s sweetheart as soon as she started acting, and her Oscar win in 2006 for Walk The Line only cemented her status as a pop culture icon.
Her role in Sweet Home Alabama would be what most closely speaks to her real-life interests and heritage. She launched her company, Draper James, to sell clothes and her own line of home decor items inspired by her heritage and personal tastes.
Reese, Her Very Own Southern Home Decor Line
Reese launched her own fashion and home decor company in 2015 which she named Draper James. One of the things that Reese will often repeat when talking about Draper James is how her Southern Roots has been influenced her. In fact, the name itself it is attributed to her Southern family. In her website she explains the decision to name the brand after her grandparents, Dorothea Draper and William James Witherspoon.
She remembered the constant parties her family would have in their home, usually on Sunday nights. In her Architectural Digest interviews (AD) she described this as something that is normal in the South, and something that she grew to love. A part of what makes these parties so successful is the home decor that the hostess can proudly display. A Southern lady would like to host a party in a home that it has been impeccably decorated, and Reese feels the same way about her home.
When asked about her personal philosophy when it comes to interior design, Reese stated that she firmly believes that there should be something old and something new. "I think it's really great to have your beautiful, classic china that came from your grandmother – that's what mine is – but mixing it with modern glassware, or infusing it with new things. It just turns everything around. It makes it a little more contemporary.” (AD) This aesthetics of hers is reflected in her home decor collection.
There are many pieces that show her old-school Southern upbringing mixed in with cool new contemporary designs. She revealed that she’ll often uses Instagram or Pinterest and other social media for ideas and inspiration, and often uses independent artists when decorating her own space.
Crate & Barrel Collaboration
Reese teamed up with Crate & Barrel to sell a selection of items from the Draper James home decor line all across the country. The pairing makes sense since Crate & Barrel is all about home decor that can be used to impress guests while still remaining functional. On the Crate & Barrel (CB) website, they describe the partnership as: “She loves designing and entertaining as much as we do, and that makes the Academy Award-winning actress and founder of lifestyle and fashion brand Draper James a perfect fit as our new brand ambassador” (CB).
The selection of Draper James items offered by Crate & Barrel reflects this statement well. Customers will find beautiful rose-gold colored cutlery, along with everything a person could ever need to host the perfect dinner party. If you’re interesting of having a fabulous, entertainment, and home ready decoration at your house, this line is for you. Reese also teamed up with Crate & Barrel to create a Christmas line, full of items perfect for entertaining family and friends over the festive season.
Home Again and Pottery Barn
The Home Again movie is her most recent film and the character portrayed by Reese is a forty-year-old interior stylist that recently separated from her husband, and this character certainly shows a real life phase of Reese.
Those who watched the movie and absolutely loved the style of the home, most of the beautiful decoration items that can be spotted in there are from Pottery Barn, who team up with the movie filmmakers/producers Nancy Meyers and Hallie Meyers-Shyer. It’s not surprising that the set of the movie was so beautiful decorated.
Any film that has the Meyers name attached to it will always have enviable interior design in every scene. Other examples of which you can see Nancy’s interior design work are: the Santa Barbara home that Meryl Streep resided in during It’s Complicated or the stylish Hamptons house belonging to Diane Keaton in Something’s Gotta Give.
Meyer's films or most of her movies have in common is the impeccable taste and stylish design that has been put into every nook and cranny. If you’re the type of person who loves the look of a well put together home and who entertains often, Draper James items are definitely your ally.
The best part of all is that they have a reasonably cost despite Reese’s name being attached to the brand. You can order from her website directly or visit her store, and you will find all the pieces you need to start decorating your home even Reese would envy. Moreover this amazing academy winner actress has also achieved astounding success as a business woman.
